Abstract

Objective

In Türkiye, there are perfusionists who pursue this profession with bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees, as well as with certification. Each clinic has its own distinct approach to cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) applications. The American Society of Perfusionists has provided some recommendations for the team working on CPB. The aim of this study is to investigate, considering these recommendations, the differences or similarities between the safety measures in the guideline and those in Türkiye, te extent of perfusionists’ knowledge about the guideline, and where they conduct their research.

Materials and Methods

The research was conducted online with 197 perfusionist participants in Türkiye between November 6, 2024, and January 2, 2025.

Results

This study evaluates and publishes the safety measures and knowledge used by perfusionists in Türkiye during CPB procedures, along with the results.

Conclusion

According to the study’s results, some questions received positive responses, while others received negative ones. It was observed that while there is a majority of compliance with the American Society of Perfusionists’ guidelines, equipment such as automatic clamps, filtration mechanisms, and oxygen analyzers are not preferred by perfusionists.
