Abstract
Objective
The primary aim of this study is to investigate the impact of occupational burnout levels experienced by perfusionists on their job satisfaction, as well as to identify the demographic factors that modulate this relationship.
Materials and Methods
Data were collected via an online survey from 140 perfusionists actively working in various hospitals across Türkiye. A Demographic Information Form, the Maslach Burnout Inventory, and the Job Satisfaction Scale were administered to the participants.
Results
A negative, moderate, and statistically significant relationship was found between the participants’ job satisfaction and occupational burnout levels (r = -0.672, p < 0.05). It was determined that perfusionists generally experience a moderate level of burnout, with emotional exhaustion being the most prominent sub-dimension. Demographic analyses revealed that female perfusionists experience higher burnout than their male counterparts, yet their sense of personal accomplishment is also higher. Furthermore, it was observed that employees in their first 10 years of professional experience are more vulnerable, whereas married individuals and those with a positive perception of their economic status reported higher job satisfaction.
Conclusion
This study demonstrates that enhancing the job satisfaction of perfusionists and mitigating burnout is a crucial necessity not only for employee well-being but also for patient safety and the sustainability of cardiac surgery.
